GLOBE

GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is an international effort aiming at bringing students, science teachers, scientists and local communities together to carry out research on the Earth System Science (ESS). Students and teachers participating in GLOBE learn how to collect accurate and comprehensive data on continuing basis; to interpret data helping them to understand problems at local as well as global level.
Thailand became the 85thmember of the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) upon the Government's signing an agreement with the US Government on 30 September 1999. IPST duly became Thailand's GLOBE coordinator.
In implementing GLOBE activities, IPST works closely with teachers and students in schools attached to the Education Office of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Ministry of Education; universities in different regions of the country; pertinent departments in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of ICT, Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives; Kirdkao Observatory; and the Thai Homeland Institute.

Thai students taking part in GLOBE have carried out small-scale research on their local environment and share their findings with their counterparts in other countries.
The following is some of the GLOBE projects implemented by IPST:

  • Earth as a System Science and its integration in teacher training curriculum
  • Animations for primary pupils
  • Geoinformatics Data Access Point
  • Earth as a System Science Research
  • Young Soil Doctor Project
  • Pyranometer Thailand
  • FLEXE Thailand
